Microsoft announces SP1 for Windows 7, Server 2008 R2

Microsoft has announced the availability of SP1 for Windows 7, though I won't set my hopes too high. Microsoft blogger Brandon LeBlanc wrote in a blog entry, "For Windows 7, SP1 includes only minor updates, among which are previous updates that are already delivered through Windows Update."

On the server front, the service pack for Windows Server 2008 R2 will include new features in the form of RemoteFX and Dynamic Memory. RemoteFX is virtualized graphics technology that promises a server-based VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) experience indistinguishable from being rendered locally. Dynamic Memory, on the other hand, makes it possible to adjust guest virtual machine memory to be adjusted on-the-fly.

Microsoft says it will be giving more detailed information pertaining to SP1 over the next few months, though it has declined to set a release date or outline any timetable for any beta releases.
