Microsoft announces new Outlook client with full Exchange support for Mac

Microsoft will be replacing Entourage, the Mac variant of Microsoft Outlook with a bona fide Outlook client for Mac OS X next year. At the moment, Entourage does not support Visual Basic and lacks complete Exchange support. This is set to change with the full Outlook client however. Among other features, Outlook for Mac will support Information Rights Management, which is often used by businesses to control access to sensitive documents.

Highlighting Microsoft's commitment to bring full Outlook functionality to the Mac, Mac Business Unit general manager Eric Wilfrid told Ars Technica that the new version has been written from the ground up to support the latest protocol used by Microsoft Exchange. He said, "Because it's designed for the Mac, it will be different from Outlook for Windows. But it will be fully compatible."
