Michael Dell to return as CEO, start wearing turtlenecks
I'm sure we all saw this one coming: Dell CEO Kevin Rollins has been ousted and replaced with former CEO, company founder and chairman of the board Michael Dell. Dell has fallen of hard times as of late: the company has returned quarter after quarter of disappointing results and faced the ultimate humiliation this year at the hands of HP, which managed to overtake Dell as the top seller of PCs worldwide--despite a public scandal of cartoonish proportions. As a result, share-holder whipping boy Rollins has been ousted and company founder Michael Dell brought back in an effort to change the ailing company's fortunes. Hmm, where have we seen that maneuver before? Don't expect a Jobs-style turnaround however--rumor has it that Dell exerted a great deal of influence as the company's chairman and that Rollins is only being removed to appease ravenous investors.
