Security vendor Sophos said the US produced 26 percent of the world's spam in the six months up to September, leading all nations, but that number is severely reduced from 42 percent last year. South Korea's and China's global spam output rose from 12 percent to 20 percent and 9 percent to 16 percent, respectively. But in the US and Canada (which dropped from 7 percent to 3 percent), the main factors were better law enforcement and service providers taking more proactive anti-spam steps.
