Malware goes mobile

Here's bad news for, well, everyone: according to security vendor McAfee, malware has, at long last, reached the mobile platform. In a study commissioned by McAfee and performed by Informa Telecoms and Media, it was found that 83 percent of mobile operators have been hit by a malware infection. What's more, 50 percent of operators reported being infected during the last three months. "I think that's a very dramatic number," said Jan Volzke, McAfee's head of marketing for mobile security. "[We're talking] all sorts of malware with malicious intent." While the number of mobile devices infected with malware still pale in comparison to PC statistics, the fact that malware exists on mobile platforms at all should raise red flags: if you don't have a mobile security policy and security software in place, the clock is ticking.
