IT security policies

A survey of more than 2,000 employees and IT professionals spanning 10 countries revealed some pretty interesting results. The majority of employees think that IT security-related policies in their companies are unfair, according to the study commissioned by Cisco and conducted by market research firm InsightExpress. What's more, the top reason for IT security non-compliance is that staffers do not agree that the policies are necessary for them to perform their jobs in the first place.

Culture does appear to play a part in these opinions, as results varied from country to country. In India, for example, one in 10 respondents admitted to hardly ever abiding by corporate security policies, while more than half of those surveyed in Germany would break rules only to complete their jobs.
