Mac-based Trojan found in pirated copies of Apple's iWork '09
According to reports, pirated copies of Apple's new iWork 09 application suite found on various file-sharing sites comes inclusive of a Trojan horse named "iServices.a" that will hijack Macs, leaving them open to further security violations. According to Intego, which specializes in Mac security software, "The installer for the Trojan horse is launched as soon as a user begins the installation of iWork."
Once in place, the malware will connect back to a predefined address to report the success of its nefarious mission. Further instructions can be issued at this stage, which might include installation of additional pieces of malware. While Mac-only malware is still a relative rarity, this is a somber reminder that even the Mac OS is not immune from the perpetual battle against malware.
