Lucent, Alcatel in merger talks, again

Merger talks are happening between Alcatel and Lucent Technologies, officials said. About $12.6 billion is likely to change hands and the overall value would be about $33 billion. So while the services end of Ma Bell may be returning via the "new" AT&T, the research end of Bell Labs is probably going to the French. (Email me with your thoughts about this.)
