LG to unleash HD DVD/Blu Ray combo player
As the high-definition optical format war wages on, a few brave diplomats are working hard behind the scenes to broker a peace agreement. We reported earlier that LG has a dual-format PC drive in the works and now, it appears that a consumer player is also imminent. The BH100, which was selected by CNET as the best product of CES 2007, plays Blu-ray discs, HD DVDs and just about everything else that's round, flat and has a hole in the middle (sorry, pancakes!). The DVD forum, the body responsible for HD DVD licensing, apparently didn't like the idea of having their logo rubbing shoulders with enemy propaganda, so they're not allowing LG to use the HD DVD logo on the player's exterior (they give the lack of HDi support as their official reason). Regardless, this combo-playing, gap-bridging monolith could be upon us as soon as next month. Why can't we all just get along?
