LG delays Android 2.2 tablet

LG has apparently decided to delay the introduction of a tablet that was to be based on Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android 2.2 (Froyo). Reports cited an unnamed LG official who said that the company's hardware is completed, attributing the reason behind the decision to delay the product launch to the operating system. Apparently, LG considers Froyo not to be "the most suitable version for our tablet."

Truth to be told, the plethora of Android-based tablets rushed out to the market are really nothing more than stop-gap measures by computer makers eager to get in early on the "iPad beater" game (and to make a big buck while at it). More tellingly, Google itself has stated that Android 2.2 wasn't meant for tablets. For now, LG says it is in talks with Google to decide on the most suitable version of Android to run on its tablet device, which presumably should be Android 3.0.
