Leopard data-loss bug discovered

By now, we're all used to the cycle: major vendor releases a new version of their OS, security analysts and hackers dig through the source code and for weeks afterward, bugs and security vulnerabilities pour in. The latest, on the topic of OS X Leopard, of course, is that a data-loss bug could lead to some serious...well, data loss. Apparently, if a connection is interrupted between a Mac and a FireWire 800 drive, a shared network drive or one of many other storage devices during a large file transfer, data loss can occur on both the sending and receiving drives. In tests, this bug has proven to be reproducible in Leopard, though it does not appear to exist in OS X Tiger. No word yet from Apple, though hopefully they'll acknowledge the issue and offer a fix soon.
