Lenovo hopes smartbook will bridge the gap

Today Lenovo launched its first smartbook. The company is marketing the device as a hybrid of the netbook and smartphone; however, it does not have telephone capabilities. The product weighs 1.95 pounds and looks like a netbook with a small keyboard and a 10.6-inch screen, reports Computerworld.

The smartbook will be available this spring for $499 in the United States, with discounted pricing available with the purchase of a 3G data plan through AT&T. The device is powered by Qualcomm's Arm-based Snapdragon processor and has 10 hours of battery life.

Computerworld states that "smartbooks could offer advantages over netbooks, including longer battery life and quicker startup. Arm processors usually draw less power than Atom chips, and the quick boot capabilities of Linux help provide instant access to the web."
