Lead on other browsers narrows for Internet Explorer
According to browser usage statistics from Net Applications, the lead that Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser has on other browsers continues to narrow. For example, Mozilla Firefox now stands at 23 percent, while Google's Chrome has risen to 2.8 percent. Apple's Safari and Opera remained at 4.1 percent and 2 percent respectively.
In contrast to the above-mentioned browsers, usage of Internet Explorer has dropped to 67 percent. Of course, the 67 percent commandeered by IE is spread between the latest IE 8, IE 7 and IE 6.
Interestingly, while IE 6 is at an all-time low of 25.3 percent, many can't wait to see the bug-ridden browser get removed completely from the face of the world, with some even comparing it to "an illness that just won't go away." With Windows 7 officially out next month, this trend will hopefully accelerate as computer makers stop bundling Windows XP--which comes with IE 6, in favor of Windows 7.
