Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) will be issuing a light update consisting of just four bulletins as part of July's Patch Tuesday update, according to information released in Microsoft's advanced notification bulletin. Just one of these bulletins has been assigned the highest threat label of "critical," and the remaining three have been tagged "important." The one critical update involves a remote code execution and is limited to Windows Vista and Windows 7. In all, a total of 22 vulnerabilities will be patched in the Windows OS (Windows 7, Vista, XP and Server 2008) and Visio 2003 SP3 when Tuesday comes around.

In an email message, Paul Henry, security and forensic analyst at Lumension, observed that while four bulletins may appear minor compared to 16 bulletins last month, "the reality is that it will be rather disruptive, as all the patches impact Windows and Office and require a restart." The update is scheduled to be released at 1 p.m. ET on July 12, and will be automatically downloaded and installed unless you have settings configured otherwise.
