Juniper Networks is putting new anti-spam and anti-malware software into its Secure Services Gateway line of SMB and branch-office appliances. The update is part of the new ScreenOS 5.4 software, based on NetScreen's technology bought by Juniper in 2004, officials explained. Also new is policy-based routing. The basic software is free, but some of the new security features are sold on a subscription basis of as-yet unannounced pricing. Regardless, the new software should make Juniper more competitive to rival Cisco Systems' similar products.
