IT skills that see pay hikes in spite of the downturn
Despite the severity of the downturn, the fact remains that enterprises today are more dependent than ever on the use of Information Technology than at any other time in the past. So in spite of smaller budgets, IT departments continue to require the right mix of talents and expertise to ensure the smooth operation of the business.
By tracking the pay for 371 certified and noncertified IT skills, Foote Partners have identified some of the skills that are wanted--and which continue to pay well--as well as those that saw a decline in pay. Generally, noncertified skills in Linux, Apache, and Sybase saw an increase of between 25 to 28 percent, while professionals with uncertified skills in the areas of PHP, SAP and Unix saw their pay increase by more than 14 percent.
For certified IT skills, the list of professionals with qualifications such as HP/Certified Systems Engineer, Sun Certified Programmer for Java Platform, EMC Proven Professionals certifications and IBM Certified Specialists saw their pay increase by between 13.5 to 14.3 percent.
