IT salaries: The skills that pay the bills
From time to time, we here at FierceEnterprise like to discuss trends in IT salaries. After all, salaries for tech workers are perennially on the rise and who doesn't like a little good news? Well, the folks at ComputerWorld recently conducted a survey of their readers that looked back on the past year in an attempt to identify what drove salary increases. The answer? In-demand skills. While all IT workers saw an average increase in pay of 3.1 percent, network architects received an average pay increases of 5.3 percent and web developers, Internet managers and directors of e-commerce all saw jumps of 4 percent or more. "The dominant business model is now Web-based. That's what it's all about," said David Foote, CEO and chief research officer at Foote Partners. "Customers are dictating the way they want to interact across the network with the vendors. They're willing to define the relationship in part by how secure it is and how easy it is to do business with them."
