IT job market: IT Pros wary; CIOs optimistic
The funny thing about studies is that for every study out there, you can probably find one that proves the exact opposite. Just yesterday, we reported that the majority of IT professionals fear that the "bubble" in the IT job market will soon burst. Today, however, we have news of a contrary nature: it appears that CIOs--the folks who do most of the hiring--anticipate that they'll hire more new talent in 2007 than they did this year, representing a five-year high for the IT job market. Sixteen percent of CIOs polled by Robert Half Technology will add staff in the next three months and only two percent plan to cut back their IT workforce. "A low unemployment rate, combined with ongoing demand for highly skilled professionals, is resulting in a strong need for IT specialists at all levels," said Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director of Robert Half Technology. Could it be that IT professionals are simply worried about nothing? Or are CIOs being overly generous in their estimates? Either way, you can probably find a study to the contrary.
