iPhone says Guten tag to Deutschland
As expected, Steve Jobs continued his European tour yesterday with a stop in the land of beer, chocolate and lederhosen. Just in time for Oktoberfest, Jobs announced that the 8GB/EDGE iPhone will land in Germany on T-Mobile's network for €399 (around $560 USD). Like in the U.K., the phone will be released on November 9th and like in the U.S., the phone will require that consumers sign up for a 2-year contract in order to activate the device. The phones will be sold through Apple retail as well as Deutsche Telekom's Telekom Shops and the T-Mobile web store. There's no word on any free WiFi partnerships like in the U.K. but it looks like the EDGE situation in Germany is less dire: T-Mobile claims that it will be able to offer EDGE throughout its entire GSM network "by the end of 2007." The only question that remains: will anyone in Europe want an EDGE iPhone now that they know a 3G version is coming?
