iPhone: Almost unlocked by hackers

With the iPhone having been out for a few weeks now, it's just about time for a major announcement from the hacking community. The mysterious folks behind the iPhone Dev Wiki have briefly emerged from their Intercave to announce the phone's initial armor has been penetrated. Using the newly-released application iASign, iPhone users can now purchase an iPhone and eschew the iPhone contract for any existing Cingular/AT&T plan--pre-paid or otherwise--provided they have a SIM card handy. Sure, this doesn't quite unlock the iPhone for use with any carrier but it does allow corporate AT&T users to use their iPhone with their work account--with those sweet corporate discounts to boot. It will be interesting to see how Apple responds to this sort of thing, as the hacking assault on the iPhone will surely continue until the device has been fully compromised.
