Intel this week is launching the Pentium 4 662 (3.6 GHz, $401) and 672 (3.8 GHz, $605), its first chips with hardware-based virtualization. Microsoft, VMware and Xen all are building support for the technology, which can be used by applications vendors for efficiency and performance or by systems vendors for maintenance and reliability. AMD's virtualization debut is due early next year.
