Intel to deliver 3.0Ghz quad-core Xeon

In a call with analysts this week, Intel confirmed that a 3.0Ghz version of its quad-core "Clovertown" Xeon is on the way for servers, in addition to more efficient dual-core Xeons manufactured using a 45nm process. "We will introduce a low power, quad-core Xeon in the coming weeks," a spokesperson for Intel said. While the company did not offer release dates for any of these products, they indicated that they would be released in the coming weeks. Intel continues to keep the pressure on chief rival AMD, especially in the high-power server market, by staying one step ahead in terms of manufacturing technology. You'll recall that AMD is only now rolling out its first 65nm chips and has vowed to start producing 45 nm chips by 2008.
