Intel reveals initial 45nm lineup

For those of you waiting in hushed anticipation for word of Intel's forthcoming lineup of 45nm chips, wait no longer: the company has finally released details regarding "Yorkfield" and "Wolfdale," the first members of the 45nm Penryn family that will hit store shelves. Launching on November 12th, the Yorkfield chips will be the world's first to be manufactured using a 45nm process. The first batch of quad-core Yorkfield chips will all bear an "Extreme Edition" designation and will range in speed from 3.0Ghz down to 2.50Ghz. They'll retail for between $266 and $999, depending on your need for speed. If that's a bit too rich for your blood, you might want to hold out until January, when the more reasonable dual-core "Wolfdale" chips hit: ranging in speed 3.16Ghz to 2.66Ghz, they could retail for as cheap as $163 (final pricing for the low-end model has yet to be announced). As if that wasn't enough Intel for you, the company will loose a 65nm 2.4 GHz dual-core E4600 Conroe next week as well, in order to round out the holiday lineup.
