Intel earlier this month issued a security patch for the Proset connection software in its Centrino wireless drivers, and today they're releasing a new patch to fix the first one. The original patch was for a bug that could enable anything from simple denial-of-service attacks to complex remote execution of malicious code, but the patch turned out to be an extreme memory hog. The good news is nobody reported any additional attacks due to memory problem, Intel and security experts noted. Meanwhile, the Proset software isn't even needed for most users.
