Intel officially released the Atom N470 processor this week, bumping up the performance ante slightly to 1.83GHz. Designed for netbooks, the new chip is based on the second-generation Atom architecture code named Pine Trail, and is Intel's fastest to date for this category of devices. The first Pine Trail chip debuted in December with the Atom N450 clocking in at 1.66GHz.

Like its predecessor, the N470 comes with a graphics processor and memory controller built into the processor itself. This not only causes the chip to be more power efficient, but allows higher system and graphics performance to be achieved. Sources say that systems shipping with the N470 could be on the market as early as next week.
