Intel, IBM launch blade standards group
July 26, 2005 — 8:01pm ET
Blade servers aren't as popular as companies like IBM and Intel hoped for, so now the duo are founding an industry consortium for blade advocacy and advancement. They're joined by Brocade Communications Systems, Cisco Systems, Citrix Systems, Network Appliance, Nortel, Novell and EMC's VMware subsidiary. But customers may have reasons to be suspicious, since plenty of large suppliers like AMD, Dell, McData, and Hewlett-Packard are conspicuously missing. (Is this just a marketing trick under the guise of helping users? Share your opinion.)
