Intel announces support for Energy Star guidelines

Intel has announced that it will support the new revision of the Energy Star guidelines (developed in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency), which will go into effect in July. The new guidelines (version 4.0, Tier 1) are designed to reduce the amount of energy consumed by electronic devices as well as the costs associated with running them. While only complete systems qualify for the Energy Star distinction, Intel will produce low-consumption products that help PC vendors meet the Energy Star standards. This is good news for environmentalists and businesses alike: cutting down on power costs is good for everyone involved. However, if you're really serious about lowering your organization's power consumption, you'll have to take your philosophy all the way to the data center.
