InPhase, which develops holographic storage ("Help me, Obi-Wan..."), has been promising the future for several years. Now they finally appear close to delivering it. Their current media can hold 300GB at a 20Mbps transfer rate in a 5.25-inch cartridge; postage-stamp-sized media is due for 2008. Indicating that InPhase isn't just a bunch of quack scientists, they include Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, IBM, Matsushita, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony, and Toshiba as partners.
