IDC: All-in-one desktops to stage a comeback
Market researcher IDC has predicted that the market share of all-in-one desktops is expected to stage a comeback in 2010 amidst stronger demand from businesses and consumers alike. Based on its analysis, IDC says that market share of all-in-one desktops will double to 10 percent even as the sales of portable PCs slows slightly. The shift will occur as emerging markets look for a more affordable solution in the form of a full-fledged desktop.
Ultimately, portable PCs will still account for more than 60 percent of all PC shipments, though sales of netbooks is expected to suffer. Last year was the climax for the market growth of netbooks, noted the research firm. For now, the falling prices of portable PCs mean that the differentiation factor is less compelling.
