IBM to iron out mainframe road map
July 25, 2005 — 8:01pm ET
IBM, as expected, announced its new mainframe today, dubbed z9. Compared to the prior flagship, called the zSeries 990 ("T-Rex"), z9 servers have twice the processors and memory, along with more encryption options. The z9 starts at about $1 million and will ship in mid-September. New virtualization switches are also available for a variety of IBM servers and storage offerings, officials said.
