IBM, Laszlo bring Internet apps to Eclipse
IBM previously integrated Laszlo Systems' online application development tools with the open-source Eclipse server; now Big Blue is contributing that code back to the community. Software built this way can run in non-traditional places, such as inside Macromedia Flash Player. In many ways, this competes against the Microsoft-endorsed AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) approach to rich online application development. However, IBM isn't necessarily shying away from AJAX, officials said. More toolkits will follow.
