HP to unveil webOS tablet at Feb. 9 special event
HP (NYSE: HPQ) has scheduled a special media event to be held on Feb. 9, and the rumor mill is working in overdrive on exactly what one of the largest tech company in the world has up its sleeve. Well, confirmation that HP will be unveiling a tablet came by way of HP Personal Systems Group Executive VP Todd Bradley.
When responding to a CNBC correspondent who asked whether HP has something in the pipeline to "blow away" the iPad, Bradley answered "You and I will talk about that on the ninth." In the same interview, he also confirmed that the tablet will run webOS, the operating system that it gained with its acquisition of Palm last year, while also revealing that its webOS platform was one of the key reasons for buying Palm.
Of course, with a media invitation that reads: "Think big. Think small. Think beyond," speculation is rift that HP will also be unveiling a new smartphone (think small) and another as yet unidentified device (think beyond). And with the market heating up with the Apple TV and Google TV, some commentators are expecting a similar device based on the webOS.
