HP tops PC market again; Apple sneaks up to No. 3
IDC came out with it's quarterly state of the PC industry report this week and for the most part, it looks like it was business as usual this past quarter. Worldwide PC shipments grew by 12.5 percent in the second quarter of 2007, the Asia/Pacific region (excluding Japan) continued to represent the fastest growing market, with more than 20 percent year-over-year growth and HP retained its grasp on the title of world's largest PC vendor. Yawn. In the good old U.S. of A, however, things were slightly more interesting. While Dell continues to lose ground to HP, it remains the #1 seller of PCs in the States--by a margin of less than 5 percent. Meanwhile, Gateway continued to slip while Apple continued to grow, with both companies tying for third place with 5.6 percent total marketshare. If these trends continue, Gateway could lose its bronze medal to Steve Jobs and friends before the year is out.
