Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) has launched a tablet computer that serves as a control panel for its new PhotoSmart eStation C510 all-in-one printer. Based on the Android operating system, the 7-inch tablet also allows browsing of the web and is capable of running customized applications. It is understood however that it won't be able to access the Android Market, though Yahoo! is said to be developing applications for accessing information such as finance, sports and general news from the web.

The idea behind the tablet seems to be that web or email content accessible via the tablet hardware can effectively be printed, as well as to facilitate the exchange of content between various media devices. One surprise might be its support for Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) new iOS AirPrint, which was recently unveiled. The tablet comes together with the Photosmart eStation, which will be priced at $399.
