HP grabs database archive firm OuterBay

Hewlett-Packard is helping itself and potentially hurting rival EMC with one small acquisition. HP said it's buying OuterBay Technologies, known for its popular LiveArchive software. The software basically organizes and offloads older and less-used information from busy databases, and both HP and EMC include it in data management applications. Terms of the HP deal weren't announced, and officials said the EMC relationship will continue; but who knows, right?
