HP buys Mercury Interactive for $4.5B
Hewlett-Packard, with the announcement of its $4.5 billion acquisition of Mercury Interactive, is creating a huge boost for the relatively quiet HP OpenView software suite. HP gets Mercury's lines of application development and IT management software, while also strengthening its competitiveness against CA and IBM. The deal is HP's first large one under CEO Mark Hurd. HP has not yet announced integration or employee retention plans, but there is little overlap, officials noted.
