Hitachi-LG to unite Blu Ray and HD DVD in PC drive
As you'll recall, LG brought us the world's first Blu Ray/HD DVD combo player for the living room and now the company is extending that spirit of cooperation to the desktop as well. In partnership with Hitachi, the company will offer up the GGW-H10N Super Multi Blue, a desktop drive that will will play, read and record both single and dual-layer Blu-ray discs (at either 4x or 3.5x), while also sporting the ability to play back HD DVDs. Of course, all this functionality is going to cost you: the drive will retail for $1200 when it hits the streets in May. While for many of us, that's more than the cost of our entire system, it's still nice to see progress toward ending a pointless format war.
