Hard disk drive manufacturer Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (GST) earlier this week unveiled a range of SAS and Fibre Channel SSDs targeted squarely at the enterprise. Available in 100GB, 200GB and 400GB models, the Ultrastar SSD400S come in 2.5-inch (SAS) and 3.5-inch (Fibre Channel) form factor respectively. Utilizing Intel-supplied 34nm SLC NAND and a controller jointly developed with Intel (NASDAQ: INTC), the 400GB SAS version claims 535MBps sequential read and 500MBps sequential write speeds, while the 400GB Fibre Channel drives is rated at 390MBps/340MBps respectively. Hitachi GST says the drives have a MTBF of two million hours, and come with five-year warranty. Volume production should start in late Q1 or Q2 of 2011.
