Headhunter loses job over 'Reply All' blunder
The use of email may be old tech now, but this apparently did not stop a headhunter from recruitment agency Stark Brooks from a slip-up of epic proportions. Annoyed at receiving an email from a job hunter that placed his email address with 4,000 others on the carbon copy list, Gary Chaplin replied with a profanity-laden rejection. Among other things, he called the hapless job applicant "too stupid to get a job, even in banking."
Unfortunately for Chaplin, he replied by hitting the "Reply All" button, which sent his scathing email to the other 3,999 recipients. Chaplin attempted to hide his tracks by using a pseudonym, with the mistaken notion that doing so would hide his tracks. In my book, that makes it a tad more difficult to discount as a simple mistake of clicking on the wrong icon.
Despite some initial confusion, the email was eventually tracked back to Chaplin's IP address. According to a report on The Inquirer, he started sending apologetic emails as the complaints poured in, though Stark Brooks soon forced him to step down. After commanding a salary of £200,000 a year, Chaplin is now in the unenviable position of looking for a job just a few days before Christmas.
