HD DVD, Blu Ray format war over?
Has a clear victor already emerged in the war for high-definition optical disc supremacy? A not-so-impartial judge seems to think so: Sony. Citing sales statistics from January, Sony claims that Blu Ray discs outsold the other guys by a factor of 2:1. Sony also sold more Blu Ray players during the month--thanks no doubt to the PS3 Trojan Horse game console. Finally, Sony shipped 25 Blu Ray titles during the month of January while HD DVD only saw 11 new releases. "We have a critical mass of content, we have the biggest mass of consumer electronics companies in the world supporting this format. That has moved Blu-ray into the forefront," Sony said in a statement. While these are certainly promising statistics for Sony, it's still way too early to call the outcome on this one.
