HD DVD and Blu Ray copy protection cracked
It was bound to happen sooner or later (but probably sooner): mere months after the the hackers over at the Doom9 forums discovered volume keys for decrypting individual Blu Ray and HD DVD discs, they've also unearthed the processing key that's used to encrypt all HD DVD and Blu Ray films. What does this mean for the movie industry? Well, it means that with the right tools, you can now unlock, decrypt and backup any HD movie disc. It also means that HD films are going to start showing up on torrent sites in even larger numbers. What's more, as the hacker responsible, "arnezami," points out, there was no actual "hacking" involved: "nothing was actually hacked, cracked or even reverse engineered."
