Has open-source lost its luster?
Has the open-source movement remained true to its original aims or has it been tainted by major corporations in their search for a better business model? "Open-source has become a free pass for all sorts of competitive actions that would once have been--at a minimum--roundly criticized," said Gordon Haff, an analyst at Illuminata. While there are certainly a surprising number of large corporations moving toward open-source (Microsoft, anyone?), I'm a little hesitant to characterize the open-source movement as a whole as having jumped the shark quite yet.
