Google goes URL-shrinking with Goo.gl

Google has launched a new URL-shortening service aptly called Goo.gl. For the uninitiated, URL shortening is essentially a service that takes a normal (and long) URLs and squeezes them into a far shorter ones to share via character-limited communication mediums, such as Twitter.

Before you get too excited though, the Goo.gl URL Shortening service is currently only available for a couple of Google products, and not for "broader consumer use." For now, that means Google's browser toolbar and Feedburner RSS service are able to access this feature. Then again, Google also hinted that it may eventually launch the service on a standalone site, so I suppose it all depends on its popularity.
