George Colony, the chairman and CEO of research firm Forrester, has called Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) upcoming Chromebook "one of the greatest acts of corporate idiocy that I've ever seen." The remark, reported by Computerworld, was made at Forrester's IT Forum. Colony's pronouncement appears to be influenced by Forrester's assertion that people are gradually shifting away from Internet browsing and towards mobile-type apps. The company calls it the "app Internet," and says that the market has already reached $2.2 billion worldwide with an annual compound growth of 85%.

Google is too Internet-centric, Colony elaborated, and he also criticized companies like Facebook that have not made iOS apps that cater to the iPad's larger screen size. Colony thinks that this brave new world will also see a transition in terms of which skill sets matter for IT professionals. Programmers who are keen to transition will probably want to brush up on languages such as Objective-C, C++ and Mobile Java--as most apps are written in these languages.
