Forrester: Workers using multiple devices but desktop is still king
An online survey by Forrester of almost 5,000 information workers in the United States has yielded some interesting insights into how office workers currently work. Conducted in May, the results were published in a report titled "The State of Workforce Technology Adoption."
One nugget of information is how an increasing number of workers are using multiple devices for work, including desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Despite the popularity of tablets however, only 11 percent of those surveyed say they use tablets in the workplace.
Desktops remain very much alive, at 87 percent of workers surveyed, while slightly more than half of workers say they use laptops at work.
In addition, 45 percent say that they work exclusively at the office, a surprisingly low number. Half of those surveyed, though, shared that they split their time between the office and remote locations. Evidently, working from multiple locations increases with the seniority of employees, with 87 percent of respondents who are either directors or above saying they work from multiple locations.
In comparison, only 62 percent of supervisors and 40 percent of individual workers work from multiple locations.
