Office 2010 (NASDAQ: MSFT) is scheduled to be generally available to consumers today, and Forrester analyst JP Gownder thinks that the office productivity suite will continue to be a success among consumers. In a blog entry posted on June 14 titled "Office 2010 Will Continue To Succeed With Consumers," Gownder noted that Microsoft Office Is the most ubiquitous consumer client software aside from the Windows operating system itself.

Inevitably, the web-based Google Docs (NASDAQ: GOOG) competitor is mentioned, though Gownder thinks that "it's still no competition" for a number of reasons ranging from user familiarity, inferior experience of the web platform and the fact that Office 2010 is now complemented by the free Office web.

According to a separate survey conducted recently by Forrester, only 4 percent of U.S. online consumers say they use Google Docs regularly. This figure plunges even lower when measuring by revenue; a study by Gartner finds Google has 0.9 percent of the productivity software market on this front, while Microsoft holds a staggering 94.23 percent.
