For the morbidly curious: the iPhone in Steve's words
Sick of the iPhone already? Too bad. You're going to have to wait for next week when the coverage will either intensify or peter out, depending on whether or not Steve unveils the mystery device. Until then, I've got even more speculation for you but this time, it's from a source that actually seems somewhat reputable. David Sobotta, a former federal sales manager for Apple, has written a piece for The Guardian where he uses his 20 years of experience at the company to make projections for next week's expo. According to Sobotta, the rumored Apple tablet will never be; Jobs has apparently said as much to executives who have asked him about the possibility of an OS X tablet PC in the past. Then there's the small matter of the iPhone. Sobotta offers up what may be the most concrete picture of the device that we've seen so far, a secondhand account of Steve's vision for the handset: "He said the really converged, ubiquitous devices would have to fit in your shirt pocket, and be better than either a phone or a computer by itself." Enticing.
