Firefox user base continues to grow in Europe
The rate of Firefox adoption may have slowed a bit in these United States but that hasn't stopped the open-source browser from gaining a bit of ground elsewhere. Firefox continues to see strong growth in Europe, slowly eroding the marketshare of the incumbent Internet Explorer. According to a report from XiTi Monitor, Firefox marketshare in Europe jumped from 21.1 percent to 27.8 percent during the past year. Even more amazing is the huge slice of the market the browser has managed to capture in Eastern Europe--47.9 percent in Slovenia and 39 percent in Poland, Hungary and Croatia. "It's a nice way to get started on a Monday morning," said Tristan Nitot, president of Mozilla Europe. "I hope we continue to gain market share, as our goal is to promote choice. Monopoly leads to lack of innovation."
