Is it only a myth that Firefox is more secure?
Did you make the switch to Firefox, hoping for a more secure browsing experience? According to security firm Secunia, Firefox, the popular open-source browser is even more "riddled with holes than Internet Explorer." In a new report, Secunia noted that there were 115 reported security vulnerabilities in Firefox last year, or almost twice that of Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Apple's Safari browser combined, writes TechNewsWorld.
On the other hand, Firefox did surpass IE in repairing bugs once they were discovered. This is not to say that Microsoft has been laggard over this aspect; on this front, Microsoft's market share could well be working against it. For example, Derek Manky, a security and cyber threat researcher at Fortinet, pointed out the swiftness at which Microsoft has patched the flaws exploited by the Conficker worm. Unfortunately, administrators are not applying the patch as quickly as they should have, leading to a damaging outbreak.
