Firefox architect not in favor of being bundled with Windows

Even as Microsoft mulls the ruling passed down by the EU that the company had abused its monopoly by bundling Internet Explorer with Windows, Mozilla is "kind of worried" about its Firefox web browser achieving a similar monopolistic status.

Of course, even though Mozilla's Firefox browser recently tipped the 20 percent mark in terms of its worldwide market share, this hardly compares against Microsoft's 90 percent at its peak. Internet Explorer's market share has eroded somewhat just below 70 percent at this moment.

According to Firefox architect Mike Connor, "We don't want to kill everyone else." Connor also stated point-blank that he does not want the Firefox browser bundled with Windows, which is a course of action currently being considered by the EU.

Connor was also critical of rival browser Opera's claims that bundling harms competition, pointing to Firefox's improving market share, which proves it is possible to do well without bundling. He added, "My personal view is that it's not the right outcome. The choice [when installing Windows] would be weird. There's no good UI [user interface] for that."
